Lomprayah runs the most popular speed-catamaran route. Maenam to Thong Sala (Phangan) is 35 minutes; Maenam to Mae Haad (Koh Tao) is 1h 45min. The catamaran is air-conditioned, has bench seating with footrests, a small snack bar, and Wi-Fi on the Tao route.
Seatran runs from Bangrak pier (north Samui) to Phangan and Tao on a slightly larger conventional ferry — 50 min to Phangan, 2h 30min to Tao. Cheaper by ฿50-100 each way, slightly more stable in rough seas.
If you're heading to Koh Tao for diving, the morning ferries (08:00 Lomprayah, 08:00 Seatran) are essential — afternoon arrivals miss the half-day dive trips. For Phangan day-trips, any ferry works.
Pier transfer add-on: hotels in Bophut/Maenam are walking distance from Maenam pier (no transfer needed). Hotels in Chaweng/Lamai add ฿200-300 for a Toyota Hiace pickup. We arrange the pickup so it lands at the pier 30 min before departure.

Lomprayah vs Seatran — which?
Lomprayah's catamaran is faster (35 min to Phangan vs 50 min) and runs on time. Seatran is bigger, calmer in rough seas, and slightly cheaper. We recommend Lomprayah unless seasickness is a concern.
