Koh Madsum sits twenty minutes by speedboat south of Bophut. The island is ringed by a sandy beach on its north and east, and that beach is home to about 30 friendly pigs that wander down at low tide for snacks and selfies. The trip ends with sunset over the Gulf — the kind of orange hour that converts skeptics.
The pigs are the headline, but the snorkel is the hidden surprise. The reef on Madsum's south side is shallow (1-2m), with juvenile parrotfish and the occasional clownfish. It's better than the much-overhyped Nang Yuan reef in our opinion — and far less crowded.
Time the trip with the tide. Low tide mid-afternoon = pigs on the beach in maximum number. High tide = pigs mostly inland, beach narrower, pictures less iconic. We'll WhatsApp you the right departure time based on the day you book.
The boat is usually a 30-seat speedboat run by one of three Madsum-licensed operators. If you prefer a private boat (just your group), we'll book Mr. Tu's longtail for ฿19,500 — slower journey but more comfortable and you control the timing.
Sunset from Madsum's western side at 17:45 (depending on the season) is one of the cleanest unobstructed Gulf sunsets you can get from a Samui boat trip. The horizon is clean — no mainland, no other islands.

Are the pigs okay? Is it ethical?
The Koh Madsum pigs are managed by the island's landowner family. They're well-fed, vet-checked, and not abused. The ethical question is real for Pig Beach Bahamas; on Madsum the practice is genuinely benign — the family farms the island for the pigs.
Will they swim with us?
Sometimes. Low tide they walk the beach. High tide a few of them wade. They don't swim out far.
