Private Longtail — Pig + Tan

Slow boat, small group, your itinerary. Per-boat pricing, scaled by size.

Mr. Tu's private longtail at a Koh Madsum cove

Mr. Tu's longtail again — but on the Pig + Tan route this time. Up to twelve guests, your group only. Per-boat pricing tiers by group size, so a six-person group pays about a third of what they'd pay on the joint speedboat for the same trip — and they get a captain who picks the cove based on the morning's tide rather than a fixed itinerary.

Mr. Tu runs two longtail routes from Bophut: the all-day Koh Tao loop, and this one — Pig Island, Koh Tan, optionally Koh Rap. The Pig + Tan route is the half-day version of the bigger Koh Tao trip; same boat, same captain, less distance.

The pricing structure is the simplest thing about it. You're paying for the boat, not the seats. The boat costs ฿4,500 for 1–3 pax, ฿5,500 for 4–6, ฿6,500 for 7–8, and so on up to twelve. You divide the boat cost amongst your group — so if you're six friends doing the 4-hour, you pay ฿767/person, and the captain doesn't care if you're four or six.

The 4-hour route is the standard: Bophut to Pig Island for the photo session, across to Koh Tan for the snorkel cove, return. About four hours door-to-door with an hour at each stop.

The 5-hour route adds Koh Rap. Rap is smaller than Tan, half an hour further out, and gets almost no tour boats. The reef is in better condition and the cove is empty most days — captain Tu picks the spot based on the current. ฿800 more for the extended route.

Bring food and drink yourself — there's a small cooler on board, no proper galley. Most guests pack sandwiches, fruit, water, beer. Captain Tu doesn't object to alcohol, asks only that nothing in glass goes on the foredeck.

Questions guests ask

Per-boat pricing — what does that mean?

You're booking the whole boat, not a per-head ticket. The price is the boat's day rate, divided amongst your group. So 6 friends booking the 4hr at ฿4,600 means ฿767 each — cheaper than the joint speedboat trip at ฿1,200 per head.

Why a longtail vs the speedboat?

Slower (1 hour each way vs 25 minutes), but you can fit into coves the speedboats can't, and the captain picks the snorkel spots based on the day's water clarity. Better for guests who don't love speedboats — kids, grandparents, anyone with a back issue.

Is the 5-hour Koh Rap option worth it?

Yes if you want the quietest snorkel cove of the three islands. Koh Rap is half an hour past Koh Tan and almost no tour boat goes there — the reef is in better shape and you'll likely have it to yourselves.
